Dear TGS Families, Tonight at the board meeting, the board made masks recommended not required effective immediately. The board asks that families take advantage of this teachable moment and to have a conversation with your family regarding the importance of respecting personal choice for every stakeholder in our school. They urge us all to use this opportunity to teach our kids about courage, kindness and empathy as we move forward. There will be no tolerance for any person questioning, intimidating or harassing another regarding their choice in mask usage. Thank you for continue support through the ever changing landscape of Covid. Sincerely, TGS Administration

Dear TGS Families, I know that these are confusing and chaotic times for everyone and information seems to be changing by the minute, so I just want to send this communication out to keep everyone informed about what Thomasboro Grade School is doing. On Friday, February 4, 2022, the Sangamon County Circuit Court granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) affecting certain school districts and specific individuals in those districts. The TRO temporarily suspended enforcement of mask mandates for students and exclusion for asymptomatic close contacts. Our District was not a party to that case. The case is being appealed and a request to stay the court’s TRO ruling has been filed. We expect a decision on this request to be made either today or tomorrow. Regardless of that decision, we anticipate that the Appellate court will make a final ruling on this TRO by February 17th. If the appellate court overturns the judge’s decision, then we would be required to enforce all of the mandates. There are a number of possibilities that could occur if the appellate court upholds the judge’s decision. Those will depend on what the court actually says in its ruling. At this time, we are asking that everyone be patient as we await the outcome. When we make changes to our mitigating procedures, we want those changes to be sustainable. We do not want to be in a situation where we are changing the expectations for the students and the staff on a weekly basis, which could happen if we change any of our mitigating procedures right now. We know that a court decision is only, at most, one week away. We will wait until we have that decision before we make any changes to our mitigating procedures. We appreciate your patience and continued cooperation through these times. We will get through all of this together and I am greatly looking forward to returning to a sense of normalcy as soon as possible.

6th grade worked hard for a week to engineer Mars rovers (egg drop contraptions) that would help an astronaut (an egg) land safely on Mars. Today we put their engineering skills to the test!

Dear Thomasboro Grade School families, I write to ask for your patience and understanding as our district navigates the latest changes to the COVID-19 guidance and rules for Illinois schools. A short time ago, an Illinois judge ruled on a lawsuit filed by more than 700 parents across the state that challenged state-mandated COVID-19 mitigations. We were not named in the lawsuit, and the ruling does not apply to our school district. Currently, we are in the process of reviewing the judge’s decision. At this time, we will continue to follow all mask mandates and emergency rules currently in place. We will communicate with you as soon as possible if anything changes. Please do not encourage a disruption to students' school day tomorrow by suggesting they not follow our current protocols and procedures. If we find that this decision that has been handed down, that pertains to specific districts, affects what we need to do at the school, we will make the changes required. Until then, I ask for your patience as we review this decision, and any impact that it may have on our current mitigations and procedures. Thank you for your continued support of our students, teachers, and staff. While it has been a difficult year, we will continue to push forward together. Sincerely, Bonnie McArthur Superintendent Thomasboro Grade School

Thomasboro Grade School will be closed tomorrow in anticipation of the inclement weather. This will be a traditional snow day. We hope that the students and staff will have the opportunity to enjoy the snowy weather. We will make a determination regarding school on Thursday tomorrow in the late afternoon. Stay safe and stay warm.

Inclement Weather Update Dear TGS Families: We are anticipating inclement weather this week. In the event we are unable to hold school as normal, we want to share some information. During the winter months, we face the need to use “Snow Days.” Those are emergency snow days and they require that we add instructional days at the end of the school year. We have been allowed to establish “E-Learning” days which allows students to attend school remotely in the event of a school closure emergency, such as a winter storm. E-Learning days are instructional days and require your child to attend school online, so they are not “made up” at the end of the school year. Administration will monitor developments, such as weather conditions, to prepare for an E-Learning day or Snow Day, if needed. When an E-Learning Day is implemented information will be shared with families as soon as possible. Families will be notified by email, text messages, phone calls and the District website. We appreciate your support as we navigate the challenges of winter weather together. Stay warm and stay safe. Sincerely, Bonnie McArthur Superintendent
